Event Takes Place on Saturday 21 November 2009 from 10am – 4pm

Peterborough 12 October, 2009 – Exhibitors at Peterborough’s inaugural Made by Artisans arts and crafts fair, to be held at The Becket Chapel in Peterborough Cathedral on 21 November 2009, include many prominent local artists and designers, announces Tia Lush of Who Ate My Crayons, Ltd., the event organiser.

Among the exhibitors are:

• Christine Pike, a talented maker of handmade bears who also specialises in ceramics, porcelain tableware and sculptures. Everything is designed and produced from her Norfolk based studio. http://christinepikeblog.com/
• Hayley Mitchell, an art graduate who has a passion for illustrations and design and launched her own business selling recycled cards made from elephant poo. She currently sells her eco-cards and handmade jewellery to clients all around the world from her base in Leicestershire. http://www.rubywren.com
• Stephanie Phillips, a textile artist specialising in freeform crochet art who wants to show the world that crochet is not just about doilies and dishcloths and that even the Granny Square can be modern and exciting. Stephanie is based in Bedfordshire. http://hookandscumble.blogspot.com/
• Kerry Wilkinson, a designer who specialises in unique resin based jewellery and accessories. Kerry uses a process of embedding objects into resin, which is then finished with varnish, each piece is carefully made entirely by hand from her studio in Leicestershire. http://www.penny-dog.co.uk/
• Richard Carlton, a photographer who combines traditional photographic techniques with digital modern processes. Richard specialises in landscape photography and is based in Norfolk. http://richardcarlton.webs.com/
• Nicola Callow, an award winning fine jewellery designer who creates pieces which are simple & understated to bold “one off” and unique. Nicola enjoys working on commissions and handcrafts all her jewellery from her shop in Cambridgeshire. http://www.muranosilver.com/

“I’m delighted that so many local artists of such talent are participating in the fair,” says Ms. Lush. “This means that Peterborough residents who attend the fair will have ample opportunity to support small and independent businesses by buying locally and directly from the producers. And, of course, the visitors won’t have to venture far to find great Christmas gifts.”

She continues: “In recent years, especially in the U.S., handcrafted goods are becoming increasingly popular as recognition grows that they can compete with designer goods in terms of quality, and have the added advantage of being unique. Anyone who wants to learn more about them should plan to visit the fair – there will be plenty of examples on display, and the artists will also be there to discuss their designs.

A press preview event, by special invitation, will be held on Thursday 29 October 2009 at Diva Wrappings, 13 East Street, Crowland, PE6 0EN from 2pm – 5pm, where samples of the work will be available for review and an opportunity for members of the press to meet some of the artists in person.
